Business Start-Up

Starting a new business venture can be very exciting, and while naturally your focus will be fixed on generating business and making money, it does help to be very aware of your tax affairs when self-employed as it is solely your responsibility. As newly self-employed, it is a legal requirement to inform HMRC of your business start-up. Therefore you should register for Self Assessment as soon as you start trading.

While you may consider performing your own bookkeeping and accounting tasks, including the filing of your Self Assessment Tax Return, you might want to consider hiring an Accountant. It can be beneficial to use the services of a knowledgeable and experienced Accountant who can deal with all tax affairs and communicate with HMRC effectively, should the need arise.

As part of our Business Start-up service, we inform HMRC of your self-employment and take care of your Self Assessment registration. We also give you the best advice, guidance and information to ensure you fully understand the HMRC taxation rules that apply to your self-employment so that you are compliant.

Any individual with a new business start-up registered with HMRC before 1st April 2026 will need to comply with the current regulations (as of 2025), and file an annual Self Assessment Tax Return. However, when Making Tax Digital for Income Tax comes into affect starting 1st April, 2026, IF they fall under the MTD enrolment criteria, they will be moved to the new MTD system.

Business Start-Up Service FAQs

When you choose to use our Business Start-Up service, you’ll have access to an accountant who will give you FREE taxation advice and guidance whenever necessary or when you request it for the first year.

Bookkeeping is also a part of this service, and will ensure that you have an accurate accounting record of all transactions generated through running your business.

HMRC requires all self-employed Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies to record and keep an account of all business transactions in a current tax year.

These records provide the figures that either you or your Accountant will need to prepare your accounts and file your tax return at the end of a tax year.

Good bookkeeping also enables you to have a clear record of all business transactions in the event of an HMRC investigation.

On a business level, bookkeeping helps you to keep track of all your business income and expenditure. It can help you see where financial improvements can be made to make your business more profitable and successful.

Our Bookkeeping service includes:-

  • Advice and guidance on all bookkeeping matters
  • A dedicated bookkeeper
  • Recording of all business transactions. This is normally performed on either a weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual basis depending on the growth of your business.

Yes, you will. Depending upon the frequency that we perform bookkeeping duties for you, a reminder will be sent to you by EMAIL a week before your records are required.
